Thanksgiving for my family has always been spent together with my dad's side of the family at my Uncle Kevin's house in Ripon. This year was no different. After a nice long relaxing Wednesday at my parents house, we got up Thursday and headed up to Ripon. A lot of people think that we are weird because we never actually have turkey on Thanksgiving, or if we do we never make it the main dish. Our main dish is
Goulash. A delicious hungarian stew passed down generation to generation. Only a few people in our family know how to make it - my Grandma was the best of course and my Uncle who is really great at making it a little spicy. I am fortunate enough to have learned from my Grandma. It mainly consists of Potatoes, Beef, Onions, Tomato, and Paprika all mixed in with homemade noodles. It's always delicious and the best part about it is that it always tastes a little different each time! But we had a great time together as a family as always. I got to catch up with my Grandpa who just recently got eye surgery. This was the first time he'd been without glasses for almost 50 years. He claims he sees colors he never knew were there! I also got to catch up with my cousins who I don't get to see very often. Katie is driving now and is becoming an amazing person inside and out and Kelsey is switching schools to go to St. Norbert's next year. All in all it was a great time catching up with everyone, relaxing, eating good food and just enjoying being together.
