A couple weekends ago we decided to do a little family craft project: Homemade Crayons.
This was a very simple DIY project that can be done in less than an hour and it's tons of fun! And it's a great way to get the whole family involved.

1. Start with some old crayons - my parents had a large supply of partially used ones from all of our school days so we had plenty to chose from. So start saving those used crayons now!

2. Peel the wrappers from the crayons. This can be a little challenging but that's where the help from the family comes in! Take your time and making sure to remove all excess paper - these will be going in the oven so you want to be sure it won't burn.

3. Break the crayons into smaller pieces and place into either a small round cupcake pan or silicon mold - such as an ice cube tray or baking mold. Get creative with this part - mix and match colors to creative your own fun combinations.

4. Bake - 225 degrees for 15 minutes. They should be completely melted before you take them out - but we did some experimenting and left some half melted to create some cool textures.

5. Let cool. Once they get to a completely solidified state they will pop right out!

That's it! Your crayons are ready to use. This was our first experimentation with this and we had tons of fun. I would recommend finding some cool shaped silicon molds like hearts or robots - they usually are in the $1 bins at Target during the different seasons. But really just have fun with it and don't be afraid to get creative!
